During the final betting interval, the player with the highest hand takes the pot. If more than one player is in contention, then a showdown occurs. After the cards are revealed, the highest poker hand wins. Often, a straight hand of five cards is the showdown.
Unlike other card games, bluffing is a major feature of poker. In addition to making a bet, a player can bluff by stating that he or she has the best hand. Using this strategy, the player may win the pot without actually revealing the hand.
